Hi everyone! Thanks so much for visiting, and we HOPE, “liking” our Facebook page! We thought we’d give a little information about our newly forming group, “ACTS 2”, which we hope will grow in size and we REALLY look forward to developing!
Long story short, we wanted to create a social group where we could gather the “young” adults and families in our Catholic community. We will use the word “young" lightly because our group is basically for ages 18-50. Anyone is welcome,... whether you are single, or married, with or without children, and your children are welcome too! Our hope is that we can get to know other local Catholics so we can strengthen our friendships and community, and have fun together! We hope to organize “events” of all kinds, that are family friendly and are absolutely open and welcoming to ideas/suggestions! Some events may be adult oriented, but if so, we hope to arrange babysitting (possibly paying teens of associated families would be great!) so that this is taken care of for the parents who would need it in order to attend. smile emoticon
The name of the group is from the book of Acts, Chapter 2, in which the Holy Spirit comes at Pentecost. Here is a good website that provides the entire passage with footnotes (http://www.usccb.org/bible/acts/2). If you would rather not visit the site, it explains how the apostles are prepared to proclaim the new covenant with its unique gift of the Spirit. At the end of the passage, in verses 42-47, it outlines the characteristics of the community and adherence to the teachings of the Twelve…
"42 They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life, to the breaking of the bread and to the prayers. 43 Awe came upon everyone, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. 44 All who believed were together and had all things in common; 45 they would sell their property and possessions and divide them among all according to each one’s need.46 Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the temple area and to breaking bread in their homes. They ate their meals with exultation and sincerity of heart, 47 praising God and enjoying favor with all the people. And every day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.”
We felt that what was said in Acts 2 really spoke to what we are trying to do. We hope for our group to join for meals and prayer, that we might find things in common with one another, do good works together, etc., and that God will use our group to minister to and save others who might not already have good relationship with Christ.
We genuinely hope for our ACTS 2 Community will thrive and that you will be a part of that! smile emoticon
